Why you should take part

Homelessness does not necessarily mean ‘rooflessness’, but rather lack of safe and secure housing.

There are many differing experiences of homelessness, including people living in cars, crisis accommodation, boarding houses, rough sleeping, or couch surfing.

40,000 young people aged 15–24 asked for help. 1 in 2 were turned away due to lack of beds (2021 ABS Census).

Our Keynote Speaker

“Suffering from abuse at the hands of my father, I too experienced homelessness as a child.

There were times when I was told I was an embarrassment and not good enough to come home and forced to find shelter elsewhere.”

- Jelena Dokic, former professional tennis player, Ambassador of
the Property Industry Foundation

Join Jelena Dokic as the keynote speaker at Brisbane’s Backseat SleepOut on 26 October 2023 at Eat Street Northshore Hamilton.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register my team?

add remove

This year we have updated our registration platform so you can register yourself, your teammates and create a team fundraising page all at once. Click 'Register' select how many people you want to register for the event and follow the prompts to create your own fundraising page, your team page and allocate names and email addresses to the spaces you have selected for your teammates. If you don't know everyone in your team who will be participating just yet, you can always log back in at a later date and add their details.

**Please note that by entering your teammates email and name to theit 'ticket' doesn't mean their registration is complete. They will each receive an email with a promot to log in and activate their account

One of my teammates is unable to participate, can I swap their ticket to another person?

add remove

Absolutely. You can reallocate tickets to team members at anytime. Log into you fundraising account, click the drop down arrow next to your name and select the 'dasboard'. You'll then see a tab called 'my tickets' click this and add in the details of your new teammate. They will then receive an email prompt to complete their fundraising page.

Fundraising Tips

PERSONALISE YOUR FUNDRAISING PAGE

add remove

Donors are more likely to support you if you have included a personal message and explanation as to why you are doing this for PIF. Fundraisers who personalise their page receive on average 20% more donations!

DONATE TO YOURSELF!

add remove

Get the donation ball rolling by donating to your own page. This will set a benchmark for others and will show that you are committed to the cause.

SHARE YOUR FUNDRAISING PAGE

add remove

Post your fundraising page on social media, via email and through text message and get the word out! While you’re at it, encourage your networks to do the challenge with you.

MAKE A LIST

add remove

Create a list of people in your life who could be potential donors and approach them individually. Instead of sending a blanket email, send personalised emails. Use the following dollar handles to provide a tangible connection to donations.

$13 can provide 3 meals a day
$50 can provide winter woolies or toiletries
$100 can provide internet for a month
$150 can provide a monthly transport pass

ENCOURAGE A DONATION PER KM OF TRAINING

add remove

Ask friends, family or colleagues to donate $1 per KM that you ride in training. This can be done for one day only, or for the entire time in the lead-up to race day. The sky is the limit!

COMMUNICATE YOUR PROGRESS

add remove

Monitor your fundraising progress and communicate with your networks how much more you need to reach your goal. Use this as another opportunity to share your fundraising page.

INCREASE YOUR GOAL

add remove

$50 away from your fundraising goal and have a week left? Increase it. People are more likely to keep donating if there is still a goal to be reached.

SHARE YOUR FUNDRAISING PAGE, AGAIN!

add remove

A successful fundraiser shares their page 5-6 times throughout the course of a campaign.

REMEMBER TO SAY THANK YOU

add remove

Let your supporters know their donation has been noticed and appreciated.

ORGANISE YOUR OWN FUNDRAISER

add remove

As we move out of restrictions, look at the possibility of hosting your own fundraiser. This could be an office bake sale, a picnic, a dinner with friends, etc.
